Most of your maintenance will simply be removing leaves and debris from the surface with a grass rake or a leaf blower like any other lawn.

When first artificial grass is installed, finely graded (38 Grade) silica sand, or infill sand, will be evenly spread on the grass and also be brushed in to sit at the bottom of the grass to hold grass fibers to stand upright, so that even with high traffic area, when people step on it, grass will still be bounced back. Normally for 20mm pile grass, around 6 kg sand per sqm, 30mm pile grass, 7-8kg per sqm and 40mm pile grass, 8-10kg per sqm needed, which will also make grass extra soft to step on.

Over time, the rain and the wind will move the infill or blow some of it away, the fibers can also go flatten a little, but it is a simple matter of brushing it up to rejuvenate its appearance.There isn’t a very standard time frame for example, every three months or every four months to top up the infill sand or brush up the grass, as it is more about personal choice. Generally, when grass can easily go flat or doesn’t last long to stay upright, then it is the time to top up.

Synthetic Grass will not support a fire as the character of the materials used to produce the product, but it will melt if BBQ charcoals or cigarette butts fall onto it. Burning scars will occur. Ideally, keep these items away from your grass and retain off cuts for patches if needed.

Sometimes, weeds will grow around the edges or, more rarely, through the small holes in the backing material.

It is very difficult for weeds to grow up from the soil through properly installed manufactured turf. This is because of several steps during the installation process that help prevent weed growth. Excavating the area will remove any surface weeds, a weed killer is sprayed in the area to help kill existing weeds and seeds in the soil, the compacted base provides an additional obstacle for weeds and we always recommend including weed barrier fabric in the installation process as well.

However,to destroy all existing weed root systems is not easy either, and it is possible that weeds can wiggle their way to the surface through the cracks and around the edges. We recommend to fill the cracks in beforehand to help prevent weed growth.

Weeds may also grow in the infill depending on the type of infill used during installation, besides, wind and birds can drop seeds in the area which my sprout if they are not cleaned up periodically. Weeds that grow in infill generally cannot root beneath the turf, so they can be easily removed; however, if you use sand infill or other infill materials that allow seeds to germinate, you may see weeds growing in your artificial grass.

Once weeds can be seen on top of the turf you may pull them out by hand or use any type of weed killer to remove them. Using those sprays will not harm the turf but will definitely kill the weeds from the root.

Leaves, dead flowers, and dead weeds will also rot on top of the turf if not removed periodically. If seeds drop on the rotten material, they will grow.Make sure you keep the turf clean from organic material, the amount of weeds that will grow on top of it will be minimal.
